It also provides mounting points to secure the transmission to the vehicle chassis.

    The main materials for transmission housings are gray cast iron and aluminum alloy. Early transmission housings mostly used gray cast iron because it was easy to mold, had good vibration damping properties, and was inexpensive. With the development of lightweight technology, aluminum alloy has gradually become a substitute material for transmission housings in some passenger cars because it can effectively reduce weight while meeting rigidity requirements.

   The design of a transmission housing typically includes structures such as a filler neck, drain plug, heat sink, and vent plug. The filler neck and drain plug are used for the injection and drainage of lubricating oil, the heat sink helps dissipate the heat generated during gear meshing, and the vent plug prevents lubricating oil leakage caused by increased oil temperature and pressure during transmission operation. 

     The gearbox housing not only protects internal components but also serves as the structural foundation of the transmission system, providing support and precise positioning to ensure smooth and efficient power transmission from the engine to the wheels.
